Check Out Our New Needlestick Injury Video

Below is a short promotional video for our services at Byrne & Co Solicitors in relation to Needlestick Injuries, please check it out.

We are personal injury lawyers here at Byrne & Co Solicitors in Southport, and one of the areas we specialise in is needlestick injury claims.

Needle stick injuries, or sharps injuries as they are often known as, are a particular hazard for healthcare workers, but there are many other people who can suffer from them as well. If you have been caught by a needlestick it can be a worrying time as there is the chance that you may have got infected.

There is a possibility of contracting Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or the HIV/AIDS virus so it is important to get checked out and report any incident that may have occurred.

If you feel that you may be entitled to compensation and you would like to put in a needlestick claim you can contact the offices on either 0800 0856 779 or 01704 545 912. Your call will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

And if you do go ahead with a compensation claim they will give you a £1,500 advance on any accepted accident claim , and they will also give you 100% of any compensation due to you.

Byrne & Co Solicitors, 42 Hoghton St, Southport, Merseyside, PR9 0PQ.

Hidden Crisis Of Hearing Loss

According to the Action on Hearing Loss, there is a hidden crisis in our care homes in relation to hearing loss.

It believes that up to 250,000 elderly people in England have undiagnosed or unsupported hearing loss.

Action on Hearing Loss said it had found a "high level of undiagnosed hearing loss" among care home residents because staff lacked the training to recognise problems and elderly residents accepted that their failing hearing was part of the ageing process.

We believe that our overall care of our elderly in the UK is just not up to standard and strong action should be taken to remedy this.

U.K. Must Learn From U.S. On Reducing Needlestick Injuries

NHS efforts to reduce needlestick injuries must draw on experience from the US, where they have fallen by a third in a decade, safety campaigners believe.

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is consulting on how to introduce a 2010 EU directive on preventing sharps injuries into UK law.
US group Safe in Common , which works to reduce needlestick injury risk, believes the consultation offers a chance to learn from the US experience.
Since the 2000 Federal Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, needlestick injuries have dropped by a third in the US. Safe in Common chairwoman Dr Mary Foley told GP the consultation should be used to ‘review the pioneering efforts of the US and get it right first time’.
‘If the HSE can build upon the foundation of regulations that the US has instituted and learn from our errors, a new standard will be set in the expectation of safer working conditions for healthcare personnel across the globe,’ she said.
The UK must pay attention to ‘secondary’ sites, such as consulting rooms. ‘This has been one of the biggest challenges in the US experience,’ she said.
The UK should provide the safest, simplest devices for all procedures, regardless of cost, inspect sharps environments every two years and monitor trends in injuries, she added.

What Are Needlestick Injuries Video

Hello,

Here is another video on Needlestick Injuries. It looks at what Needlestick Injuries are, the possible consequences of them, and shows you how to claim in the event of such an injury:

How Common Is A Needlestick Injury?

How Common Are Needlestick Injuries?

Needlestick injuries are far too common hazard. Some hospitals report one third of nursing and laboratory staff suffer such injuries each year.

Available statistics probably underestimate the severity
of the problem because many workers do not report their injuries. This makes it difficult to know exactly how serious the problem is or how well prevention programs work.

If you report a needlestick injury and decide you wish to proceed with a claim for compensation you can ring our office for a confidential chat on freephone  0800 0856 779. We have lots of experience in these matters and will ensure that any claim is dealt with efficiently and fairly.

The Potential Hazards Of Needlestick Injuries

Accidental punctures by contaminated needles can inject hazardous fluids into the body through the skin. There is potential for injection of hazardous drugs, but injection of infectious fluids, especially blood, is by far the greatest concern.

Even small amounts of infectious fluid can spread certain diseases effectively.

Accidental injection of blood-borne viruses is the major hazard of needlestick injuries, especially the viruses that cause AIDS(the HIV virus), hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.

The risk of infection after exposure to infected blood varies by bloodborne pathogen. The risk of transmission after exposure to HIV-infected blood is about 0.3%, whereas it is estimated to be up to 100 times greater for hepatitis B virus (30%) and could be as high as 10% for hepatitis C virus.

What Are Needlestick Injuries ?

What Are Needlestick Injuries ?

Needlestick injuries are wounds caused by needles that accidentally puncture the skin. Needlestick injuries are a hazard for people who work with hypodermic syringes and other needle equipment. These injuries
can occur at any time when people use, disassemble, or dispose of needles. When not disposed of properly, needles can become concealed in linen or garbage and injure other workers who encounter them unexpectedly.

Needlestick injuries transmit infectious diseases, especially blood-borne viruses. In recent years, concern about AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), hepatitis B, and hepatitis C has prompted research to find out why these injuries occur and to develop measures to prevent them. Despite published guidelines and training programs, needlestick injuries remain an ongoing problem.

If you have suffered from a needlestick injury and you would like to evaluate whether you could be in line for some compensation please give our freephone number a ring in complete confidence on  0800 0856 779.

We will give you expert advice and guidance on the matter.

Road Traffic Accidents Fault Guide

The Definition Of A Traffic Accident:

An accident is defined as a traffic accident if it occurs on a road or in a place to which the public have access. This can include footpaths and bridleways. In Scotland, a public road is one that a local authority has a duty to maintain.

Responsibility For A Traffic Accident:

It may be obvious that someone caused the accident and there will be no dispute a
bout liability. However, there will be cases where it is not obvious, or where the extent of liability is difficult to work out. For example, as a general rule, the driver of a vehicle which runs into the back of another vehicle will be held liable for the accident. This is the case even if the car in front has braked sharply or unexpectedly, because drivers are required to drive a safe distance behind other vehicles. However, there may be circumstances when this does not apply, and if liability is disputed, legal advice will be necessary unless the insurance company is dealing with it.

For help and advice ring Byrne & Co Solicitors in Southport on  0800 0856 779.

Monday Jokes

Seeing it has been a rather dull Monday, here are a couple of jokes to hopefully bring a smile to your face, or possibly just a groan---

What did the lawyer call his daughter--------Sue.

Sally walked in to the Dentist office to make an appointment. “How much do you charge to pull out a tooth?” She asked.” “It’s £130″, was the prompt reply. “£130!” gasped Sally, that’s ridiculous! There must be a way for you to go cheaper.” “Well,” said the Dentist thoughtfully, I suppose if we don’t numb it, we could knock off £30.” “Only £30?,” countered Sally, “that’s still £100, you’ve got to make it cheaper.” “Well,” said the Dentist after a long pause, “I suppose if we take it out with a wrench we could knock it down to $50.” “Perfect”, said Sally happily. “I would like to make an appointment for next Tuesday, for my husband Jack.”

Have a great day
